Purple shampoo... Either your best friend, or the root of your biggest hair complaint: highlights becoming more dull, and darker overtime.

Our guest writer is hair stylist Danielle Trapani (@colorbydtrap on IG). She is known for her gorgeous dimensional colors and is AMAZING at educating each and every client on proper at-home hair care. So without further ado...

How many of you are avid purple shampoo users? Did you know overuse can dry out your hair and dull the color?

Purple shampoo is opening the cuticle each time you use it. Opening the cuticle over and over will dry out your hair.

How does it dull your hair? Purple is a part of the cool color family. Cool colors do not reflect light. This means, overusing a cool colored shampoo can make your blonde look dull and dark.

If you’re currently struggling with dull hair, put down the purple shampoo and clarify! Click the photo below to shop a great one from Kerastase.

If you don't have a clarifying shampoo, the next time you see your hairstylist, ask if they can do a treatment to remove product buildup!

How to properly use purple shampoo:
  • Wait at least 4-6 weeks after your hair appointment to use it.
  • It should only be used every 4-6 weeks.
  • Wash your hair with a hydrating, color safe shampoo first.
  • Finish with a deep conditioning treatment.

And last, but not least. Make sure you are using a high-quality product! Click the photo below to shop The Tress Club's favorite from Kerastase.
